Job Title:  Editor Math

Location: 136 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016

Summary:

This position is responsible for content editing within editorial guidelines set by the Supervising Editor. The Editor will provide hands-on editing of selected projects as required, as well as work with in-house resources for those projects.

Education/Experience Required:

  • The Editor must have a working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and mathematics pedagogy, as well as the ability to edit text so that it is instructionally sound.
  • This position requires a minimum of 3 years experience editing educational books.
  • Classroom experience or digital product development experience is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Under supervision of Supervising Editor develop select series/individual titles from bookmap and writer’s guidelines through final files.
  • Create TOCs, edit whole or partial manuscript, assuring accuracy of content, including text, images, illustrations, answer keys, glossaries, and correlations as required and necessary.
  • Edit all page proof rounds with input from content reviewers, fact checkers, proofreaders, copyeditors, writers, and supervisory staff.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with all departments, and attend status meetings for select projects.
  • Collaborate with Supervising Editors, Senior Editors, and other Editors as needed, providing hands-on editing and rewriting as required.
  • Provide editorial direction and feedback to writers throughout the writing process, collaborating with writers and in-house staff on text, special features, as well as on photo and art specs.

Job Title:  Senior Editor - Math

Location: 136 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for managing and editing a series or project from conception to bound book with minimal assistance from the Supervising Editor. Senior Editor must be able to work autonomously and act as team leader for assigned projects.

Education/Experience Required:

  • The Senior Editor must have extensive knowledge of Common Core and state standards, pedagogy, and demonstrate expertise in a content area.
  • This position requires a minimum of 5-plus years experience in educational publishing, including experience acting as a team leader and mentoring less experienced editors..

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and editing a series/project—both print and digital—from conception to bound book or complete digital offering with minimal help from the supervising editor.
  • Demonstrating content expertise in a given area.
  • Acting as team leader for assigned projects and mentor less experienced team members as necessary.
  • Monitoring and tracking standards/tests in states for which books are under development.
  • Consistently producing highest quality editorial work.
  • Working collaboratively with other TL departments.
  • Managing schedules to avoid delays and working with supervising editor to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Maintaining a solution-based approach to problems arising in the normal course of the editorial publishing plan.

Major Challenges:

The major challenges of this position are meeting all deadlines with quality editorial work, mentoring less experienced editors, and keeping up with constantly changing state standards/tests. Senior Editor should present problems to their Supervising Editors with solutions already in mind.
