Our goal has always remained the same—to equip educators, students, and librarians with outstanding learning tools. Triumph Learning is a division of HCC. In January 2014, Wasserstein & Co., LP acquired all of the assets of Recorded Books LLC, a former division of HCC and one of the leading worldwide providers of unabridged audiobooks, digital content, and services to the library, school, and retail markets.

Rick Noble

Rick Noble, Chief Executive Officer

Rick Noble serves as Chief Executive Officer at Triumph Learning and Haights Cross Communications, Inc, the parent company of Triumph Learning.

Previously, Rick served as the Chief Executive Officer of Blackboard Engage (alternate name, Edline Holdings Inc.). Prior to that, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Medical Media Holdings, LLC. Rick has extensive experience in the publishing/information industry and has a history of creating growth and value for stakeholders through product and service enhancements, digital transformation, new product development, and acquisitions. Rick was President and Chief Executive Officer of Thomson Healthcare, overseeing premier brands and businesses that included Micromedex, Medical Economics, American Health Consultants and the Physicians' Desk Reference. He has also held executive positions at Marketing & Reference Services at OCLC, UMI (now known as ProQuest). He has a Bachelor's degree and an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto, and he has completed executive education at UCLA and Harvard.

Scott August

Scott August, Chief Financial Officer

Scott August, CPA, serves as Chief Financial Officer at Triumph Learning and Haights Cross Communications, Inc., and has spent the last 15 years in the Education industry. Previously, Scott spent 12 years at Kaplan, Inc. where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Kaplan Test Prep and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Kaplan Professional. Prior to joining Kaplan, Mr. August worked as Divisional Vice President of Finance for The McGraw-Hill Companies, following a tenure working internal audit for the company. He began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co. where he became a manager in their audit and business advisory practice. Scott has extensive M&A experience, closing over 20 transactions, including complex international businesses. He has also lead significant restructurings, turnarounds and growth initiatives. He holds a CPA as well as an MBA from Rutgers University, and a B.S. in economics from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.

Faiz Mohammed

Faiz Mohammed, Chief Accounting Officer and VP Controller

Faiz Mohammed has served as Chief Accounting Officer and VP Controller of Haights Cross Communications since August 2010. Mr. Mohammed served as Vice President of Finance, Accounting, and Compliance from April 2008 to August 2010, and as Director of Sarbanes Oxley Compliance from March 2005 to April 2008. Prior to joining HCC, Mr. Mohammed served as a senior auditor at Ernst & Young, LLP, where his primary focus was in the technology, entertainment, and communication industry. Mr. Mohammed received a B.S degree in accounting from Hunter College.

Diane Curtin

Diane Curtin, VP of Human Resources

Diane Curtin is Vice President of Human Resources for Haights Cross Communications, and since September 2010 is also Vice President of Human Resources for Triumph Learning. Diane served as Director of Human Resources for HCC from March 2000 to September 2007. Prior to joining HCC, Ms. Curtin was Assistant Vice President of Human Resources for BNP Paribas, and spent earlier years in human resources-related roles at Ziff-Davis Publishing Company. Diane is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Steven B. Epstein

Mr. Epstein is the founding partner of the law firm Epstein Becker Green, P.C., and is Chairman of the Board of Visitors of Columbia Law School. He also serves on the board of directors of Discovery Health, Emergency Medical Services Corp., Catalyst Health Solutions, Inc., Health Insights, Management Health Solutions, Inc., Monument Bank, National Compliance Solutions, Inc., Sentient Medical Monitoring & Diagnostics, Shakespeare Theatre Company and Street Law, Inc. In addition, Mr. Epstein serves on the Board of Advisors of Aethon, Inc., Dauphin Ventures, KBL Healthcare Ventures and Radius Ventures. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association and the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation.

Ron Huberman

Ron Huberman is an Operating Executive with Chicago Growth Partners and Prairie Capital (two Chicago-based private equity firms). Ron began his 16-year career in Chicago city government as a police officer. He later served as Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Police, Executive Director of Emergency Management and Communications, Chief of Staff to Mayor Daley, President of the Chicago Transit Authority, and CEO/Superintendent of the Chicago Public School System. While serving at the Chicago Public Schools, he initiated sweeping reforms including on-line assessments of all students, new accountability measures and a first-of-its-kind student safety plan. Since leaving Chicago Public Schools Ron has founded a company in the education technology space and currently serves on the boards of Specialized Education Services, Reliance Communications, Navman Wireless and Rush University Medical Center.

Ron received his BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned his MBA from the Booth School at the University of Chicago along with a Masters in Social Service Administration, where he was both an Albert Schweitzer Fellow and a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow.

Eugene Linden

Mr. Linden is a Vice President and Chief Investment Strategist for Bennett Management Corporation. Mr. Linden serves on the boards of directors of Cibus Genetics LLC, Insight Health Services Corp. and Syratech Corporation.

Ted S. Lodge

Mr. Lodge is a Partner at GoldenTree Asset Management and is responsible for restructurings and turnarounds. Prior to joining GoldenTree, Mr. Lodge served as an advisor to private equity firms and hedge funds investing in stressed and distressed businesses and led the turnarounds or restructurings of a number of companies.  Mr. Lodge has served on the boards of directors of numerous public, private and not for profit entities, often as chairman. He currently serves on the boards of Southern Community Newspapers, James Cable, Source Interlink, Port Townsend Paper Company, Neenah Foundry, RJ O’Brien, KCA Deutag and Haights Cross. He received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, his M.Sc. in Economic History from the London School of Economics, his A.B. in Political Economy from Brown University and studied Economic Theory at Harvard College. Mr. Lodge participated as a panelist at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Inaugural Restructuring Conference. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

James A. Ovenden

James A. Ovenden joined the Board of Directors on September 23, 2010 and is Chair of the Audit Committee. Mr. Ovenden is the sole principal for CFO Solutions of SC, a consulting firm providing CFO advisory services to middle- market companies and has served as the principal consultant with CFO since 2002. Since May 1, 2009, he has been the Chief Financial Officer for Asten Johnson Holdings, a manufacturer of paper machine clothing, specialty fabrics, filaments and drainage equipment. He has served on the Board of Directors of Insight Health since August 1, 2007. From 2004 to December 31, 2007, he was the Chief Financial Officer and a founding principal of OTO Development, LLC (“OTO”), a hospitality development company established in 2004; in 2008 he was an advisor to OTO. Mr. Ovenden was the Chief Financial Officer of Extended Stay America, Inc. from January 2004 to May 2004 and held various positions at CMI Industries, Inc. from 1987 to 2002, including Chief Financial Officer. He currently serves as a director, and as chairman of the audit committee of the board of directors, of Polymer Group, Inc., and audit member and director for Flagstar Bancorp, Inc.
